The Pen May Be Mightier Than The Sword, However...

...the Mighty Pen is a lousy warfare tool when matched against government thugs armed with AK-47s.

Mugabe's stormtroopers: the armed guardians of a mad dictator. Under the "reasonable" gun control laws imposed by the dictatorial regime of Zimbabwe, only the military and the police are allowed to carry guns. Hear that, American liberals?

Robert Mugabe warns Zimbabwe's voters: 'How can a pen fight a gun?'

Robert Mugabe gave warning yesterday that he would not cede power if he loses next week’s election to the Opposition in his most explicit statement yet of his refusal to respect the result.

State-controlled media reported his comments to supporters at an election rally, the latest in a series of increasingly menacing threats as Zimbabwe counts down to the June 27 presidential run-off poll. Mr Mugabe’s military-backed regime has been carrying out a campaign of violence aimed at wiping out the opposition vote.

“We fought for this country, and a lot of blood was shed,” Mr Mugabe told his supporters. “We are not going to give up our country because of a mere X. How can a ballpoint fight with a gun?”

The warning came a day after he declared: “We are ready to go to war.” Evidence, say observers, of mounting concerns that he may not have done enough to secure the vote.

“In recent weeks under Robert Mugabe’s increasingly desperate and criminal regime Zimbabwe has seen 53 killings, 2,000 beatings, the displacement of 30,000 people and the arrests of opposition leaders,” Mr Brown told reporters after a meeting with President Bush.

Let's recap:

-At first, Zimbabwe's government passed "reasonable" gun control laws barring its citizens from owning firearms in the name of public safety.
-Robert Mugabe, Zimbabwe's dictator suffered a crushing electoral defeat but refused to cede power.
-Not admitting defeat, the same Robert Mugabe started imprisoning, persecuting, torturing and summarily executing the disarmed dissenting citizens of his own country.
-When faced with the prospects of a popular uprising, Robert Mugabe laughs his ass off and asked his followers a rhetorical question: How are they gonna fight us, with ball point pens? We have guns.

US Democrats like Pelosi, Obama, Feinstein, Hillary, Schumer and others are continuing to push for exactly the same Mugabe-style "reasonable" gun control laws and for the same reason: public safety. In their feeble minds, American liberals believe them. They and also believe guns are so 17'th Century and a rogue government can be kept in check only by the mighty pen of a free press and the freedom of speech. Clearly, they didn't had the chance to meet Mr. Mugabe.
