Many of you may remember Obama's speech in Berlin was given at the Siegessäule Victory Column, which is considered a symbol of Imperial Germany’s militarism, and was a favorite memorial of Adolph Hitler.
Then for the last couple of days, the "Greek Temple" stage set up for Obama's acceptance speech made quite a buzz over the Internet. Just in case you are a liberal educated in the American public school system here is a little factoid for you: ancient Greeks built those temple to worship their Gods.
But there also is something I noticed tonight during Obama's Speech: above the stadium stood a pale horse and underneath was a giganic projection screen with the video of the Obamessiah.

I just saw your thread on the sodium cyanide crystal find. As first blush, it would seem just another nut that had some poison. Then I vaguely remembered something about the crystal form of cyanide. I did a little digging and the fact that they found sodium cyanide in a crystal form sent a chill up my spine. When combined with sulfuric or hydrochloric acid, the crystals produce hydrogen cyanide. Better known as the gas used in the gas chamber. Hitler's Germany called it Zyclon B.I know you are well aware of the horrific use of that substance as part of "The Final Solution".
My own opinion after connecting the dots here is that this is a significant event. In the cold war military, Officers had a hefty indoctrination into chemical and biological warfare. Hydrogen cyanide gas is some nasty stuff and causes a very painful death. Those that don't die from it, well, they may wish they did die. Couple that with the psychological aspects - immediate parallels would be drawn to the Holocaust, which would play right into the jihadists goal of terrorizing a population. Imagine this stuff dispersed into a air handling system at one of the DNC events in Denver.Here's a brief summary of the terrorists fascination with the gas. Not that Free Republic is the source of sources, but it is a great summary. The only other referenced I found on the net going into any detail, by the way, were cites on how to be an assassin.On page 40 of document ISGQ-2003-00000847 there is an October 2002 document where there is a request submitted by Zoo Al Fikar Military factory to the "Iraqi Directorate of Planning and Follow up" for 500 Kilograms of SODIUM CYANIDE (NaCN), 15 tones of HYDROCHLORIC ACID ( HCL), and 30 tones of SULFURIC ACID (H2SO4). Sodium Cyanide is an important precursor to produce a Chemical Weapon called HYDROGEN CYANIDE (HCN) also known as ZYCLON B and the use of Sodium Cyanide with Hydrochloric acid or Sulfuric Acid will produce this Chemical Weapon. Although Sodium Cyanide can be used for other military and civilian applications its combination with Hydrochloric Acid or Sulfuric Acid will produce Chemical Weapons and knowing Saddam Regime obsession of acquiring Chemical Weapons and other WMD, this document has a lot of importance. The more I think about this, the more disturbing it is.
The way terror cells work, there are roughly 20 people involved as the "go team" cell. There are then those that provide the logistical support to the go team.
Generally, the acid needed for the combination with cyanide would be kept separately until just before the execution phase. To be caught with both the crystals AND the acid would be a dead giveaway as to the ultimate use of the substance.
Let's suppose that the plan was to work in teams of two - one transporting the crystals with the other bringing the acid. In your typical cell, that would be 10 teams disbursing 10 pounds of hydrogen cyanide into the air. While a pound of this stuff may have limited impact (people in close proximity to an air duct), 10 pounds of the stuff would create one hell of a toxic atmosphere over a fairly wide area - like a ballroom.
Anyone that has studies how these terror cells work could certainly put two and two together here. And in conducting an investigation, non law enforcement authority can blithely dismiss this incident as some random act by a lone nut. You HAVE to assume that there are probably another 9 pounds or so of this stuff floating around Denver. And you cannot dismiss the possibility of a high profile target like the DNC convention. It fits the Al Qaeda MO to a "T".

CBS4 News has learned if mass arrests happen at the Democratic Convention, those taken into custody will be jailed in a warehouse owned by the City of Denver. Investigator Rick Sallinger discovered the location and managed to get inside for a look.
The newly created lockup is on the northeast side of Denver.
Inside are dozens are metal cages. They are made out of chain link fence material and topped by rolls of barbed wire.
"This is a secured environment," Capt. Frank Gale of the Denver Sheriff's Department told CBS4. "We're concerned about how that's going to be utilized by people who will be potentially disruptive."
In past conventions, mass arrests have taken place.
With Denver's jails already overflowing, new space had to be created and officers trained.
Each of the fenced areas is about 5 yards by 5 yards and there is a lock on the door. A sign on the wall reads "Warning! Electric stun devices used in this facility."
CBS4 showed its video to leaders of groups that plan to demonstrate during the convention.
"Very bare bones and very reminiscent of a political prisoner camp or a concentration camp," said Zoe Williams of Code Pink.
Williams was one of those arrested at the Republican Convention in New York in 2004.
"That's how you treat cattle," said Adam Jung of the group Tent State University. "You showed the sign where it said stun gun in use and you just change the word gun for bolt and it's a meat processing plant."
Gale would not discuss the facility at this time.
"We want to make sure we got our game plan set," he said, "We want to make sure the entire procedure is laid out all the personnel know what they are supposed to do."
The plans were to keep this lockup a secret, at least for now.
The American Civil Liberties Union says it will ask the City of Denver how prisoners will get access to food and water, bathrooms, telephones, plus medical care, and if there will be a place to meet with attorneys.
The protesters have already given this place a name: "Gitmo on the Platte."

RIP: Ferrari Designer Andrea Pininfarina Dead In Vespa Crash

Andrea Pininfarina was married to Cristina Maddalena Pellion di Persano. She and their three children survive him. His father, Sergio, is still honorary chairman of the company.
ANDREA Pininfarina, head of the famed company that designed a multitude of automobiles like Ferraris, Maseratti, Bentley, Fiats and the Ford Focus, died in a road crash in the early hours of Thursday near Turin while riding his motor scooter.
Pininfarina, 51, was the grandson of the founder of a car body design company that became synonymous with some of the most iconic automobile body shells not only in Italy but throughout the world.
Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi said in a statement that Pininfarina was "the representative of a dynasty that helped bring the story of 'Made in Italy' to the world."
Fiat and Ferrari Chairman Luca Cordero di Montezemolo praised his business acumen.

"I didn't see him, I was going slowly and I really didn't see him," Salmi said, according to local news agency Ansa.
Founded in 1930 by Battista “Pinin” Farina, as a small auto body shop, the company had already stamped its individuality on such prewar Italian cars as the Alfa Romeo 2300 and the Lancia Aprilia.
It got into its stride in the postwar period with the superb Ferrari 250 of 1952 and three years later produced the characterful Peugeot 403, beginning a long and fruitful association with the French manufacturer that was to be repeated notably in the elegant 504 convertible.
Towards the end of the decade the Alfa Romeo Giulietta Spider was renowned not only as one of the most beautiful of small sports cars but became an immense seller for a car of its type, with 27,000 produced. With its slender lines it is still one of the loveliest sights on the road today.
Under the influence of Sergio Pininfarina, the founder’s son, the 1960s and afterwards saw the the body styling of the cars of almost all the leading automobile manufacturers in the world influenced by the Pininfarina genius, as Sergio developed the company into a world-class automotive design group.
Chevrolet succumbed to the beguiling touch of Pininfarina with its Corvette Rondine (Swallow). In Britain that modest family saloon the Austin A40 suddenly acquired an Italianate look with the Farina Mark II version of 1961, while the styling of Rolls-Royce (Camargue) and Jaguar (XJ6) were also to benefit from an “Italian job”. Meanwhile in Germany, under the aegis of Pininfarina Deutschland, a Mercedes-Benz “bendy bus” also suddenly acquired a distinctly meridional style.
In the era of Andrea Pinifarina, who had been chief executive of the company since 2001, there had been co-operation with the Swedish company Volvo, design for the South Korean companies Daewoo and Hyundai, development of links already established with the Chinese company Hafei and a limited edition Ferrari supercar, the Enzo, among many other projects.
Andrea Pininfarina was born in Turin in 1957. Unsurprisingly, given the family ambience, he received a technical education, and studied engineering at Turin Polytechnic from which he graduated in 1981.
After a couple of years with the Fruehauf corporation in the US, he returned to the family company, where he became programme manager of the Cadillac Allanté project to style the American company’s first luxury roadster. In 1987 he was promoted to joint general manager, becoming general manager the following year. In 1994 he became managing director.

Good news out of Iraq is becoming almost a daily event: In just the past week, we learned that U.S. combat fatalities (five) dropped in July to a low for the war, that key leaders of al Qaeda in Iraq have fled to the Pakistani hinterland, that troop deployments will soon be cut to 12 months from 15, and that Washington and Baghdad are close to concluding a status-of-forces agreement.
Now this: Shiite cleric Moqtada al-Sadr plans to announce Friday that he will disarm his Mahdi Army, which was raining mortars on Baghdad's Green Zone as recently as April. Coupled with the near-total defeat of al Qaeda in Iraq, this means the U.S. no longer faces any significant organized military foe in the country. It also marks a major setback for Iran, which had used the Mahdi Army as one of its primary vehicles for extending its influence in Iraq.

The Retail, Wholesale and Department Store Union (RWDSU), a union that endorses Barack Obama in his 2008 Presidential candidacy, has negotiated with Tyson Foods recognize a Muslim holiday Eid al-Fitr instead of the traditional American Labor Day holiday.
Employees are not happy with this stunt.
Workers at Tyson Foods’ poultry processing plant in Shelbyville will no longer have a paid day off on Labor Day, but will instead take the Muslim holiday of Eid al-Fitr in the fall.

A recent press release from the Retail, Wholesale and Department Store Union (RWDSU) stated that a new contract at the Shelbyville facility “implements a new holiday to accommodate the … Muslim workers at the plant.”
The RWDSU stated that “the five-year contract creates an additional paid holiday, Iidal Fitil, a Muslim holiday that occurs toward the end of Ramadan.”
Eid al-Fitr falls on Oct. 1 this year.

UK: Muslim Students Back Killing In The Name Of Islam

A third of Muslim university students believe killing in the name of religion can be justified, a survey has revealed.
A study on the attitudes of students has found that 28 per cent said killing could be justified if the religion was under attack and another four per cent supported killing in order to "promote and preserve" the religion.
Over half, 53 per cent, said killing in the name of religion was never justifiable but among non-Muslim students that figure was 94 per cent.
While most students showed a typical generation gap where their parents were more religious than they were – 72 per cent – a significant 18 per cent said they were more strict in their religious observance than their parents.
The importance of sharia law to most Muslim was underlined by the 40 per cent who said they supported its introduction into law for Muslims in Britain, although 37 per cent opposed it.
A third of those surveyed supported the creation of a worldwide Muslim caliphate but 25 per cent opposed it and 42 per cent said they were not sure.
Half of the students said they would not be supportive of a friend who wanted to leave Islam.
Hannah Stuart, from the Centre for Social Cohesion, co-author of the report, said: "These findings are deeply alarming. Students in higher education are the future leaders of their communities yet significant numbers of them appear to hold beliefs which contravene liberal, democratic values.
"In addition there are signs of growing religious segregation on campus. These results are deeply embarrassing for those who have said that there is no extremism in British universities."
There are 90,000 Muslims among Britain's 2.3 million students in high education and the online survey asked 600 Muslims and 800 non-Muslims for their views on the religion.
Radicalisation among students has been a problem since the 1990s, with three of the July 7 bombers having attended university, along with most of the gang which planned a fertilizer bomb attack on the Bluewater shopping centre and the Ministry of Sound night club.
Ahmed Omar Sheikh, convicted of the kidnap and murder of the journalist Daniel Pearl, was a former student at LSE and Waseem Mughal, convicted of running a website for al-Qaeda in Iraq, was a former biochemistry student at Leicester University.

Mughal was a member of the university Islamic society, and the fertilizer bomber Jawad Akbar attended Islamic society meetings at Brunel University, while Yassin Nassari, convicted of smuggling plans for a Qassam rocket into Britain, was president of the University of Westminster's Islamic society at its Harrow campus in Northwest London.
The Government has attempted to encourage lecturers to report students they suspect of radical behaviour but the University and College Union has refused to do so.
A quarter of those surveyed were members of their Islamic society – compared with six per cent for other faiths - but only a third said the societies promoted interfaith activities.
Over a third of students said they used the campus prayer room regularly and 42 per cent said they regularly attended Friday prayers, although only a small proportion attending prayers were female.
None of the students admitted to being gay or lesbian and 25 per cent said they had little or no respect for others who were.
When it came to wearing the hijab or headscarf, 59 per cent said it was important, with more women than men agreeing, but 31 per cent said it was not and 10 per cent said they were not sure, with more men than women being uncertain.
A quarter of students said men and women were not equal in the eyes of Allah and seven per cent were not sure, with more women than men feeling unequal.
By contrast 76 per cent of non-muslim believed that men and women were not equal in Islam.
Nearly half of women and 36 per cent of men believe that the "free mixing" of sexes is not acceptable, while nine per cent of women and 17 per cent of men are unsure.
Despite their adherence to religion it did not stop most Muslim from mixing with other religions – 37 per cent said they had friends at university from all sorts of different backgrounds and 38 per cent said religion was not an issue when choosing friends and only eight per cent said most of their friends at university were Muslim.
More than two thirds of the students said Islam was compatible with the Western notion of democracy, and only 13 per cent said it was not, although 19 per cent were not sure.
Half of non-Muslim students thought the two were incompatible.
Three quarters of the students also said that it is possible to be both Muslim and British equally, although only three per cent said being British came first. Nearly half said they were not bothered whether they married a British partner or not.
On the other hand 57 per cent of the students said Muslims serving in the armed forces should have the right to opt out of the army if they are required to fight in Muslim countries and 25 per cent said they were not sure.
The National Union of Students said: "We know there is concern about the serious issue of violent extremism on campus, but there is a wealth of evidence to show that this is not widespread. This report actually undermines cohesion and the joint efforts of students, institutions and government in tackling violent extremism."

A tropical shrew with a taste for alcoholic nectar has been identified as the hardest-drinking creature in the world.
Pentailed tree shrews have such an appetite for alcohol that each night they imbibe, weight for weight, the equivalent of a human downing up to nine glasses of wine.
Their capacity to hold their drink and keep a clear head, however, puts human boozers to shame. After a night supping at the jungle bar the shrews are not even unsteady on their feet, let alone being copiously sick or starting drunken fights.
They get their drinks from bertam palms, which grow in the jungles of West Malaysia and produce nectar boasting an alcohol content that can match beer.
The strength of the nectar varies but it is sufficiently loaded for the shrews to be drunk every three nights if they got inebriated as easily as people.
Pentailed tree shrews, Ptilocercus lowii, were described by scientists studying them as chronic drinkers with such a high alcoholic consumption that their habit would be likely to kill other mammals, including humans.

Giant American Flag Will Continue To Fly At Car Dealership
A giant American flag that is larger than a city ordinance allows will be allowed to continue to fly at a popular Central Florida car dealership.
Monday night, Leesburg city commissioners agreed that the flag at the Cecil Clark Chevrolet dealership is more like a landmark since it has been on display for 20 years, and said it could stay.
Earlier this month, the commission wanted the flag removed.
"The community decided that they wanted better standards on the roadways," city manager Jay Evans said during an earlier interview. "We love the American flag and we are patriotic but there are standards that are in place now and we need to talk about whether or not -- in the future -- those are the right standards to have."
Clark launched a full-page ad in a local newspaper asking, "Do you find the sight of this flag objectionable?" with a photo of the American flag before Monday's decision.
The giant flag is 65 feet higher and 120 square feet bigger than the new Leesburg city ordinance allows.
